Based in Geneva since 1937, Chopard found in Karl Scheufele, a goldsmith and watchmaker from Pforzheim, the man who made the jewellery watch the heart of its production. The house opened its workshops in Meyrin, near Geneva, in 1974, and by the early 1980s was making some 18,000 jewellery watches a year between Geneva and Pforzheim.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eCharacter\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe gold twist is more than a bezel decoration: like a rope, it encircles the mother-of-pearl dial and holds it taut between the two strap terminals, themselves richly paved and bound by the same twist. The motif carries on to the bow-shaped clasp, worked with the same care.
