Identity

Rolex Chronograph Anti-Magnetic Ref. 2508, 1940s. Valjoux 22 manual-winding movement. Steel case, 35 mm diameter, rectangular pushers, snap-on case back. Silver dial with two sub-dials — small seconds at 9, 30-minute register at 3 —, applied gold Arabic numerals, polychrome telemeter and tachymeter scales. Plexiglas crystal. Rolex steel Oyster bracelet and signed deployant clasp.

Horological context

The reference 2508 ranks among the first series-produced wristwatch chronographs made by Rolex, manufactured from the late 1930s to the mid-1940s. It introduced the two-register, twin-pusher layout that would become the Rolex chronograph standard, long before the Cosmograph Daytona name appeared. Its case does not yet adopt the waterproof Oyster architecture: the Anti-Magnetic signature on the dial reflects the maison's research into protecting the movement. The Valjoux 22 calibre, a column-wheel chronograph valued for its reliability, powers most 2508s. Produced in limited numbers and offered with a wide diversity of dials, the reference holds a sought-after place in the history of the earliest Rolex chronographs.
