Horological context
Tudor was founded in 1926 by Hans Wilsdorf, already at the head of Rolex, to offer the brand's reliability at a more accessible price, its watches drawing on Rolex's Oyster cases and automatic ETA movements. At Tudor, the name Prince denotes the self-winding rotor movement, the equivalent of Rolex's Perpetual. The Prince Date+Day is its most complete expression: it shows the day of the week spelled out at 12 o'clock and the date at 3 o'clock, in the manner of the Rolex Day-Date, of which it offers a more accessible reading. The line comes in steel, steel-and-gold and gold, with smooth or fluted bezels and dials sometimes set with gem-set markers.
