Watchmaking Context
Omega was founded in 1848 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, from the counter established by Louis Brandt. His sons industrialized production and set up the manufacture in Biel. In 1894, the Omega caliber — a precision movement with winding and time setting via the crown — was so successful that the company adopted it as its name. From then on, Omega built its reputation on chronometry and careful series production. The 1930s and 1940s saw a flourishing of its dress watches, in the Art Deco spirit: rectangular cases with sharp edges, framed dials, stylized Arabic numerals, small seconds.
