Identity

Chanel J12 "Intense Black" Ref. H3828, circa 2015. Quartz movement. High-resistance black ceramic and steel case, 33 mm, notched rotating bezel with steel rim, screw-down crown. Matte black dial, applied black Arabic numerals, luminescent hour markers, black hands with luminescent coating. Sapphire crystal. Black ceramic link bracelet with invisible Chanel folding clasp.

Watchmaking Context

Chanel made its entry into watchmaking in 1987 with the Première. The J12 followed in 2000, designed by Jacques Helleu, Chanel's artistic director, and named after the J-Class sailboats. Conceived as the first resolutely unisex high-end watch – combining couture and sportiness – the J12 adopted high-resistance, almost scratch-proof black ceramic, a visionary choice of a then-unprecedented material, in a silhouette with a notched rotating bezel, integrated link bracelet, and satin finish. The white version followed in 2003, then 33, 34, and 29 mm formats in automatic or quartz, with or without date, accompanied by numerous settings. In 2010, for its tenth anniversary, Chanel presented the J12 Marine, a diving version water-resistant to 300 meters with a unidirectional bezel. This aesthetic and technical approach, little changed since its inception, has united a global and loyal audience, making it the watchmaking icon of the early 21st century.

Personality

Everything plays out in black on black: numerals and hands blend into the matte dial, which only the luminescent coating distinguishes in the dark. By day, the contrast comes solely from the material, the velvety matte of the dial against the deep polish of the ceramic.

Watch serviced. Very good condition. Delivered with the Contre-Temps box and the 24-month Contre-Temps warranty certificate.
