Identity

Franck Muller Cintrée Curvex, Ref. 1752 QZ D, circa 2004. Quartz movement. Curved white gold tonneau case, 25 × 35 mm, bezel set on both sides with diamond brancards, crown set with a sapphire cabochon. Silver sunburst guilloché dial, stylised Arabic numerals, blued hands. Sapphire crystal. Satin strap, original diamond-set pin buckle.

Horological context

In 1991 the watchmaker Franck Muller, a specialist in complications, joined forces with the case-maker Vartan Sirmakes to found the brand that bears his name. The manufacture was established the following year in Geneva. 1992 also saw the Cintrée Curvex, the house's first tonneau case, which set its aesthetic and remains its most recognisable silhouette. Nicknamed the "Master of Complications", Franck Muller went on to build his reputation on grand complications, including the first triaxial tourbillon, the Revolution 3, in 2004.

Character

The Arabic numerals, stretched and slanted, follow the curve of the tonneau as if tracing its line. The sunburst guilloché radiates from the centre between two diamond brancards that underline the silhouette without weighing it down. On its satin strap, the watch dresses for the evening.
