Horological context
The Nantucket was introduced by Hermès in 1991, designed by Henri d'Origny — the maison's iconoclastic designer, also behind the Arceau and the Cape Cod. Conceived as the rectangular companion to the latter, it adopts a singular architecture, a "rectangle within a rectangle" formed by half-links enclosing the case. This geometry is directly inspired by the Chaîne d'ancre bracelet, a motif imagined by Robert Dumas in 1938 during a stay on the Normandy coast and since become one of the maison's defining emblems. The Nantucket transposes this maritime origin into watchmaking: the anchor chain shapes the silhouette, and the very typography of the numerals carries its imprint. Thirty-five years after its launch, the Nantucket remains a Hermès catalogue classic, available in steel, in gold, and across a wide range of dials and straps.
