Identity

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Ref. 2208.50.00, ca. 2010. Calibre 2500 automatic Co-Axial chronometer-certified movement. Steel case, 45.5 mm diameter, signed crown, helium escape valve at 10 o'clock. Unidirectional rotating bezel with orange aluminium insert. Black dial, orange Arabic numerals at 12, 6 and 9, Super-LumiNova applied indexes and luminescent broad arrow hands, orange-tipped seconds hand, Co-Axial Chronometer 600m/2000ft inscription, date aperture at 3 o'clock. Domed sapphire crystal. Black Omega leather strap with orange contrast stitching and signed folding clasp.

Horological context

The Seamaster was introduced by Omega in 1948, descended from the water-resistant wristwatches delivered to the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. The line evolved over the decades toward ever greater depths. The Seamaster Planet Ocean series was launched in 2005 as the branch dedicated to deep-sea diving, distinct from the Seamaster Diver 300M, drawing on the visual codes of the original 1957 Seamaster 300 — Arabic numerals at 12, 9 and 6, applied indexes, seconds hand with a coloured tip. 600-metre water resistance, helium escape valve, and above all the calibre 2500 with co-axial escapement — the George Daniels technology adopted by Omega from 1999, marking the brand's return to fine mechanical horology.

Character

The Orange version of the Planet Ocean — aluminium bezel and matching dial numerals — is one of the most sought-after configurations of the first generation (2005-2011), before the move to ceramic bezels on later generations. The broad arrow hour hand is a direct tribute to the Seamaster divers of the 1950s.
