Identity
Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse Ref. 3545, 1970s. Mechanical manual-winding movement. 18-carat white gold case, 27 × 32 mm, signed Calatrava crown. Silver dial with tapisserie pattern, Patek Philippe Genève signature, black baton indexes and hands. Sapphire crystal. Black leather strap, original signed Patek Philippe white gold pin buckle.
Horological context
The Golden Ellipse was introduced by Patek Philippe in 1968 with the reference 3548. Its oval silhouette follows the golden ratio — 1:1.618 proportions inherited from the Divina Proportione — and inaugurated a new family of cases at Patek, neither round nor square. Ref. 3545 followed, fitted with the Patek manual ultra-thin calibre 23-300. Available in yellow, white and rose gold, then platinum, the line has never left the Patek Philippe catalogue since 1968.
Character
White gold is a less common variant of the Golden Ellipse, most vintage examples having been produced in yellow gold. Silver dial with tapisserie pattern, one of the purest configurations of the lineage.
