Rolex Lady-Datejust Ref. 69138, ca. 1995. Rolex calibre 2135 automatic with quickset date. Oyster case in 18-carat yellow gold, 26 mm diameter, signed screw-down Twinlock crown, bezel set with forty diamonds. Champagne dial, ten diamond indexes in gold settings, gilt hands, date aperture at 3 o'clock with cyclops. Sapphire crystal. 18-carat yellow gold Rolex President bracelet with signed crown clasp.
Horological context
The Lady-Datejust was introduced by Rolex in 1957 with Ref. 6517. A 26 mm version of the 1945 Datejust, it carries the founding codes of the model — Oyster case, screw-down crown, date aperture at 3 o'clock with instantaneous changeover — in a format scaled to a smaller wrist. The line runs through Ref. 6917, 69138, 69178 and 79178, up to Ref. 179138 and 179178. During the 1960s, Rolex extended the President bracelet — created in 1956 for the Day-Date — to Lady-Datejust models in solid gold. This three-link semi-circular bracelet, produced exclusively in 18-carat gold or platinum, is distinguished by its concealed crown clasp. Technical evolutions follow: replacement of plexiglas by sapphire at the turn of the 1980s, introduction of the quickset with calibre 2135 in 1983, then transition to calibre 2235.
