Horological context

Oyster Precision designates, within Rolex's catalogue, the lineage of manually-wound watches, drawn directly from the original Oyster of 1926. The Oyster case is generally in steel, 34 mm, with screw-down crown, plexiglas crystal and original water resistance of 50 metres. The Precision designation on the dial carries a double meaning in Rolex's nomenclature: it signals a manually-wound movement, distinct from Perpetual, which designates the automatic movement; it also signals the absence of COSC chronometer certification, distinct from the Officially Certified Chronometer or Superlative Chronometer designations. Ref. 6694 and Ref. 6494, produced from the 1950s to the early 1990s, incorporate a date function at three o'clock under the name Oysterdate Precision. Ref. 6426 offers a date-free dial. These models are equipped with calibre 1210 or 1225 depending on the period.
