Horological context

Hans Wilsdorf had the trademark The Tudor registered in Geneva in 1926, through the house Veuve de Philippe Hüther, and took it over in his own name in 1936. In 1946 he founded Montres Tudor SA with a simple aim: a watch his agents could sell at a more modest price than a Rolex, with the same dependability. Tudor watches received the Oyster case, and Rolex guaranteed their quality, distribution and service. In 1969 the shield replaced the rose on the dials. The Oyster Prince Date-Day spells out the day of the week beneath twelve and shows the date under a lens at three. Ref. 7020/0 is the only one in the line to receive a graduated rotating bezel, measuring elapsed time: no Rolex Day-Date ever carried one. Produced for only a few years, at the turn of the 1970s, it was made in small numbers.

Character

The "tropical" dial is the result of the original dial's pigments being exposed to light, more or less strongly over the years. That is why no two original vintage dials ever share exactly the same patina. The days of the week read in Spanish. The steel of the indexes and the notched bezel frames that warm tone in a cooler, more masculine light.

Serviced. Normal patina and signs of age. Delivered with the Contre-Temps box and 24-month warranty certificate.
