Tudor Submariner Date Ref. 79090, 1990s. Automatic ETA 2824-2 calibre. Rolex-signed steel Oyster case, 40 mm, screw-down signed crown. Rotating 60-minute bezel, black insert. Black dial, luminous round markers and triangular markers at 6, 9 and 12 o'clock, Mercedes hands, lollipop seconds hand. Date aperture at 3 o'clock with Cyclops lens. Plexiglas crystal. Steel Oyster bracelet and Rolex-signed folding clasp.

Horological context

Tudor was founded in 1926 by Hans Wilsdorf, already at the head of Rolex, to offer the brand's reliability at a more accessible price; until the 1990s its watches used Rolex-signed Oyster cases and bracelets, driven by ETA movements. The Tudor Submariner appeared in 1954 with reference 7922, a year after the Rolex Submariner, sharing its Oyster case, screw-down crown and rotating 60-minute bezel, water-resistant to 200 metres. The line then developed its own signatures: from 1969, the "Snowflake" dials and hands created for the French Navy, then the return of Mercedes hands on the final generation. Reference 79090, launched in 1989, belongs to this third and final generation; produced until 1999, it marks the end of the Submariner at Tudor.

Black dial, tritium lume. Case back engraved "Original Oyster Case by Rolex". The last generation of the Tudor Submariner before the move to sapphire crystal.
